The Archers of Loaf were darlings of the indie cosmos in the early to mid-'90s, thanks to an off-kilter sound that was edgy and challenging, so far melodically accessible at the like time. Cornerstones of the Chapel Hill, NC, indie panorama that as well spawned Superchunk and Polvo, the Archers' headman inspirations were the Replacements and Sonic Youth, merely that only began to say the narration. Their music was a great deal likened to a more intense, shrill variant of Pavement's postmodern pop, and indeed they shared key fruit elements: fractured song constructions, abstractly witty lyrics, clangorous guitars, and lo-fi production. More frozen in kindling and stochasticity rock, however, the Archers took the dissonance, egg white River noise, and angular shape to greater extremes, and played with more overt committedness and enthusiasm in concert. The Archers became a hip name to dribble with their acclaimed 1993 debut, Crappy Mettle; several more than accomplished albums followed in the first place the mathematical group called it quits in 1998.The Archers of Loaf were formed in Chapel Hill in 1991, when all quaternion members were attendance the University of North Carolina. Coincidentally, they'd all grownup up in Asheville, in the western division of the state, only hadn't all deceased to the same schools. Singer/guitarist Eric Bachmann, guitarist Eric Johnson, bassist Matt Gentling, and drummer Mark Price cut an independently released single, "Wrong," that helped them land a narrow with the California-based indie judge Alias (besides remain home to releases by American Music Club and Yo La Tengo). Another undivided, "Web in Front," became a hearty spot on college radiocommunication in 1993, creating a stiff buzz for the group's full-length debut. Gooey Mettle arrived by and by in the yr to highly positive reviews and more than alternative-radio airplay, and the Archers supported it with an lengthened national enlistment.A five-song creation EP, Archers of Loaf vs the Greatest of All Time, arrived on the heels of Icky Mettle in 1994. Amid growing media attending, Madonna's Maverick label made a play for the band, only they elective to retain developing on an independent, with lour commercial bet. Their arcsecond record album, the rawer and noisier Vee Vee, appeared in 1995 and was an regular larger college-radio hit, thanks in part to the unmarried "Harnessed in Slums." The album landed in the CMJ Top Five, and regular got some press from the hipper mainstream media outlets. In its wake, Eric Bachmann convened the Chapel Hill face design Barry Black, an eclectic, mostly subservient kit apt to flaky arrangements; their eponymous number one record album was likewise released in 1995.Meanwhile, the Archers compiled a raft of non-LP indie singles, B-sides, start takes, and unrecorded cuts for 1996's The Speed of Cattle. Their right third record album, All the Nation's Airports, came out later that class and showed the band moving into quieter, more layered territory. Bachmann's arcsecond criminal record album with Barry Black, Tragic Animal Stories, arrived in 1997, as did the live Archers of Loaf EP St. Vitus Tinnitus. The band's fourth proper album, 1998's Tweed Trash Heroes, continued its geographic expedition of calmer, more roomie sounds, and began to contain keyboards and samples. However, their endurance contest touring commitments were tributary to a sensation of stagnation privileged the chemical group. After the supporting circuit for Heroes, the Archers distinct to call it quits. A live record record album recorded at that tour's Chapel Hill show, Seconds Before the Accident, was released posthumously in 2000. Bachmann affected on to the folkier Crooked Fingers, which issued the first of several albums in 2000 as well.

Stonedhenge (1969) hit the U.K. Top Ten in early 1969. Ten Years After's U.S. breakthrough came as a solution of their appearance at Woodstock, at which they played a nine-minute translation of "I'm Going Home." The Hunt for Red October

If any film in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series stands out as the best (or even a really great flick), it's The Hunt for Red October. It was Clancy's first book leading the unlikely hero and the only film to star Alec Baldwin as Ryan. Baldwin does a great job here -- portraying Ryan not as a gung ho commando, as Harrison Ford would interpret the role, or as a know-it-all brat, as Ben Affleck would disgracefully turn in down the line.

Baldwin is perfect, only his sparring partner, Sean Connery, is even better. As a Russian hero captain defecting to the U.S. -- and

Nim's Island

Based on the popular children's novel of the same name by Wendy Orr, NIM'S ISLAND follows the adventures of Nim Rusoe (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE's Abigail Breslin), a spirited young girl who lives on a remote island with her scientist dad, Jack (300's Gerard Butler), and a host of animal companions, including an iguana, a sea lion, and a sea turtle. Nim's idyllic life gets shaken up, however, when her father goes missing while on an ocean outing. Seeking help to find Jack, Nim contacts her favorite literary hero, explorer Alex Rover (also played by Butler), who, in reality, is uptight--and distinctly unadventurous--author Alexa Rover (Jodie Foster). Against her better judgment, Alexa journeys to Nim's faraway home, setting a series of thrilling and funny moments in motion.

Directed and written (in part) by the husband/wife team of Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, NIM'S ISLAND revels in its fanciful premise, never getting hung up on its unrealistic plot points. (E-mail on an extremely secluded island?) While Breslin and Butler are charming, the real revelation is witnessing the oft-serious Foster ham it up in a role requires plenty of slapstick, fish-out-of-water moments. Although teens might roll their eyes at NIM'S unapologetically sugary scenes, younger children will enjoy the giddy mood present of the ISLAND.

Model Bruni marries French president

Former international model Carla Bruni married French president Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday in Paris.
The couple walked down the aisle at the presidential Elysee Palace, less than three months after they reportedly first met.
In a short statement, the couple said that they "were married... in the presence of their families in the strictest privacy."
The official who had performed the ceremony, Francois Lebel, mayor of Paris' eighth arrondissement said, "The bride wore white; she was ravishing, as usual and the groom wasn't bad either."
53-years-old Sarkozy married Bruni, thirteen years his junior, in the presence of 20 close family and friends, Lebel said.
He called the ceremony "a moment of family intimacy for the young newlyweds, of great simplicity and apparently a lot of affection between the spouses."
"I wished them a lot of happiness," he said.
At a news conference in January, Sarkozy revealed that the relationship was "serious" and hinted that wedding plans were in the works.
However he refused to reveal the date for a wedding, saying only that France might learn about the nuptials once they had already taken place.
